Strategic Framework for Tourism in Ontario

Ontario is launching a Tourism Action Plan that outlines steps the government can take now to strengthen and grow tourism in the province.

Engagement Sessions

In 2015, the province began a sector-wide engagement process seeking input on a Strategic Framework for Tourism that would outline how government and industry can work together to build a strong tourism industry for Ontario. This process included:

  • Minister’s meetings with the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario board of directors and Regional Tourism Organization chairs and executive directors.
  • Minister’s forum with industry leaders, followed by a question and answer session during the Ontario Tourism Summit to discuss key themes and issues facing the industry.
  • Five targeted sessions with industry leaders on specific policy areas including: investment, workforce development, research, Francophone tourism and Indigenous-led tourism.
  • Fifteen engagement sessions in 13 locations across the province that were attended by more than 675 sector representatives.

Ontario’s Tourism Action Plan

We wanted to act immediately on what we heard from stakeholders at the engagement sessions. This Action Plan demonstrates what the government can do now to grow tourism in the province.

Ontario’s Tourism Action Plan is a first step in our work on the longer-term Strategic Framework for Tourism, and signals our renewed commitment to collaborate with the industry to grow tourism in the province.
