Trails Week

The Ontario Trails Act, 2016, established an annual trails week to coincide with International Trails Day in June. The first trails week was celebrated from May 29 to June 4, 2017.

Ontario Trails of Distinction

A legacy of the 150th anniversary of Ontario, the Ontario Trails of Distinction Program was launched to recognize the most distinctive trails in Ontario.

Ontario Trails Act, 2016

The Ontario Trails Act, 2016, came into force on September 1, 2016. Among other things, this legislation:

  • Proclaims an annual Trails Week;
  • Enables the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport to recognize a trail as an Ontario Trail of Distinction; and
  • Enables the Minister to establish a voluntary classification system.
